Planning Permission For African Cape Reed Thatch Gazebos

Planning Permission

The requirements for planning permission for general garden buildings suggests that all our thatched gazebos and structures would normally fall within Class E, Part 1, Schedule 2 of the planning regulations. This states that planning permission should not be required.

There are many kinds of structures and buildings that can be constructed in your garden or on the land around your house without the need to apply for planning permission.

These include enclosures, garden sheds, garages, gazebos, greenhouses, pet houses, summer houses, swimming pools, sauna cabins, tennis courts and many other types of structures and buildings.

In some circumstances you will need to apply for planning permission. We recommend that you apply for planning permission if any of the following conditions apply:

  • If your house is a listed building or you live within a conservation area or an area of outstanding natural beauty.
  • More than half the area of land around the original house would be covered by the addition of a building or buildings.
  • The building or structure is not to be used for domestic purposes and is to be used instead for running a business or storing commercial goods.
  • You want to put up a building or structure which is more than 3 metres high, or more than 4 metres high if it has a ridged or pointed roof. Please Note: All our buildings are under 4 metres in height.
  • You want to put up a building or structure, which would be nearer to any highway than the nearest part of the original house unless there would be at least 20 metres between the new building and any highway. The term "highway" includes public roads, footpaths, bridleways and byways.

It is however recommended that you contact your local Planning Authority as to the exact requirement for planning permission in your particular area prior to the installation of any of out African thatched gazebos and structures.
