Site Preparation & Installation Service

Site Preparation For African Thatched Structure

Once you have decided to enhance your garden with an African thatched structure, there are some key factors that you need to take into consideration:

If you are going to use your thatched structure mainly as a place to admire the scenery, you will want to put it in a place where you can obtain the best view. Once you have determined the best location, you can then review the size of your chosen thatched structure to ensure suitability. If you are planning on positioning the structure against a fence or a wall, make sure you allow sufficient room around the structure for access.

Self Assembly DIY Kits:

When purchasing our self assembly DIY structures please note that the timber base and floor is supplied prebuilt in 2 or 3 sections (depending upon the structure size). These prebuilt sections simply bolt together to form the foundation of the thatched structure. It is therefore important that you position the timber base and floor sections on a on a firm flat level surface. Ideally the surface should be either a concrete, tarmac, patio or timber decking area.

On Site Construction & Installation Service:

At the African Thatch Company we employ our own teams of highly trained carpenters, joiners and fitters who can carry out the whole construction and installation process on site. From start to finish, our polite and skilled teams will carry out their work with the least amount of disruption to you and your garden. Our on site construction and installation service is very different to those offered by alternative garden structure companies. We like to refer to it as our USP or unique selling point!. For your convenience we currently offer two different construction and installation services (A and B).

Installation Service A - Installation On A Flat Concrete, Tarmac, Patio or Timber Decking Surface:

Installation Service A - Installation On A Flat Concrete, Tarmac, Patio or Timber Decking Surface

Our trained fitters will deliver a prebuilt base frame and will completely hand build the timber floor on site. This method ensures that the structures timber base and floor will be constructed perfectly level. We prefer to construct the timber floor on site as more often than not we do find that some customers existing concrete, tarmac, patio or decking areas are not always level. Once the timber base and floor is constructed our fitters will then completely install the thatched structure: including any optional extras (log sides, canvas side panels, roof linings etc) that you have purchased with your structure. For the installation service A we require a flat construction surface which must be either: concrete, tarmac, patio slabs or timber decking. Please also ensure that the area is of a suitable size for the structure chosen.

Installation Service B - Installation On An Uneven Grass And Or Soil Surface:

Installation Service B - Installation On An Uneven Grass And Or Soil Surface

This service is totally unique in that our highly trained team will completely hand build the timber base and floor on site. This enables our fitters to construct a base frame which is made to be perfectly level and is the platform upon which we will construct the timber floor and thatched structure. The major advantage of this service is that we can construct our structures onto uneven or sloping sites. Additionally our fitters will clad the outer edges of the structure in matching timber to follow the contours of the uneven ground. This service also includes the complete installation of the thatched structure and any optional extras (log sides, canvas side panels, roof linings etc) purchased with your structure.

IMPORTANT:

For the installation service B we require a clear grass and or soil construction area. It is essential that any debris, roots, flowers, plants and any large rocks are removed prior to the construction. For this service our fitters need to dig holes and drive piles and stakes into the ground when constructing the timber base and floor. It is very important that the construction area is simply left as either grass and or soil only. Please DO NOT fill, cover or compact the construction area with any aggregates such as: crushed concrete, gravel, hardcore, stone, sand or slag.

If the structure is to be installed on a steep incline or slope, please inform us prior to installation. All our structures are supported on round timber poles and we can simply supply longer poles in order to create a level base.

During the construction process, you may have to take certain measures to protect your garden. If traffic across your garden is inevitable, our fitters will take all reasonable steps to protect your garden. Please make our construction team aware of any prized plants and flowers! If it is impossible to sidestep any of your cherished plants or flowers during construction, it may be wise to dig them up for relocation. Any additional landscaping around the thatched structure should be completed after the construction.
