Timber and Poles
At the African Thatch Company we manufacture all our structures using premium grade redwood timbers. In order to make a quality long lasting outdoor structure, quality timber is required in its construction. Outdoor structures made with premium quality redwood timbers retain their appearance ten, fifteen and twenty years after construction. Redwood timbers are the perfect material to cut, shape and fabricate; it comes in a wide range of shapes and sizes. Its workability, variety and natural appearance make it the ideal choice for outdoor canopy and gazebo construction.
Redwood Timber Poles
The high quality redwood timber poles are supplied macine rounded. The premium redwood poles do not contain any major cracks or splits when new and will not develop any major cracks or splits over time with any extremes of temperature or changes in the weather conditions.
Redwood timber is a more durable, slower grown and stable wood. It has excellent strength and does not warp or shrink to the extend of other timber species like pine. Redwood has a beautiful straight grain and contains little or no pitch or resins.
Decay & Insect Treatment
Naturally untreated timbers have an in grown resistance to a certain amount of wood decay and insect infestation. To ensure that our canopies, gazebos and outdoor structures remain looking perfect for many years to come, all timbers and poles are protected from wood decay, attack by wood boring insects and fungal infestation. All the redwood timbers and poles are pressure treated with Tanalith E wood preservative. Tanalith E is applied in sealed vacuum vessels, which forces the preservative deep into the structure of the wood. Tanalith E has proven to be the most effective wood treatment preservative available in the UK today.
Additional Treatments
In addition to all poles and timbers being treated with Tanalith E wood preservative all timber components are additionally pre-treated with a brown wood preservative and water repellent treatment.
This treatment enhances the overall appearance of the structures. The wood preservative and water repellent treatment can be reapplied after approximately 10 years and is available from most leading timber merchants and DIY stores.
Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Certified
All timbers and poles supplied are FSC certified which shows that the timber has been sourced from responsibly managed forests independently certified in accordance with the rules of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).
